Plant Parts used: Seeds (dried).
Chemical constituents: The major active constituent is Levodopa and other are Mucunadine, Prurienine, Mucunine and lecithin.
Pharmacology : The mucuna seed extract has been found to produce significant effect on mating behaviour increase in mounting frequency –(MF), intromission frequency(IF) and ejaculation latency(EL). The increase in MF and IF indicates that extract increases both libido, potency and intensifies sexual activity in a sustained manner. Seed extract showed marked hypotensive and hypocholestrolaemic effect in normal rats. An extensive clinical study has been conducted for antiparkinson action with encouraging results.
Therapeutic uses: It is suitable treatment for parkinson’s disease, Nervous disorders, Aphrodisiac and General weakness.
Standardisation: Mucuna pruriens dry extract is standardized to 10% Levodopa.
