Plant Parts used: Total herb (dried).
Chemical constituents: The main constituent is Andrographolide.The other constituents are Apigenin-7 4-di-o methyl Ether, Deterpene glucoside and neoandrographolide
Pharmacology: Kalmegh extract of the plant changed blood sugar level of normal or diabetics when administered orally. Roots and leaves of plant are stomachic, tonic, antipyretic, alterative, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotectant, febrifuge and cholagogue. Apigenin-7 4-di-o methyl Ether produced significant dose-dependent anti-ulcer activity.
Therapeutic uses: Releives gripping, irregular stools and loss of appetite. In general debility, dysentery and certain forms of dyspepsia associated with gaseous distention. Torpidity of liver and constipation. It is used as a blood purifier. It is used as a tonic and alternative medicine in syphilitic chachexia and foul syphilitic ulcer.
Standardisation : Andrographis paniculata dry extract is standardized to 6% Andrographolide
